Attendance
Every day in school supports learning and success. Attendance builds routines, confidence, and connection and being present matters academically and socially.
We’re here to help students stay engaged and be successful at school. If you have questions about attendance policies, how to submit an absence, or other resources related to attendance, please view the following resources:

How Absences Work
- If your child is marked absent or tardy, you will receive a message through ParentSquare.
- When you receive the notification, click on “Send Note to School and enter the reason for the absence—no need to use a separate form or platform.
- Once submitted, your school’s attendance staff will receive your note and if approved, update your child’s attendance record in Infinite Campus.
- All notes are securely logged in ParentSquare, helping schools maintain accurate records.
Other Options for Families
Families may also continue to provide a written absence note directly to the classroom teacher or school office.

Policy
Attendance
Each child must bring a written excuse from the parent or guardian stating the reason for absence upon his or her return to school. The absence will be marked as unexcused until a note is received. Missing the school bus and/or oversleeping cannot be coded as an excused absence. Each student who accumulates more than 3 unexcused absences will be mailed a notice from the principal as required by state law outlining the negative impact of student absences in school.
Tardiness
Educational Leave
• All requests should be submitted to the school at least two weeks in advance of the requested absence.
• Students are responsible for making up all missed class work and homework
Please explain the educational opportunity the student will be attending and how the activity meets the criteria of 1) having an educational purpose, 2) having significant educational value, and 3) how the activity is related to the North Carolina State Standards using the form linked above.
Please note the following:
- A student may receive up to 3 Educational Opportunity days per school year.
- It is the parent/student’s responsibility to request any work PRIOR to the absences.
